Winepress Garden

The winery is an archeological site from the Hellenistic period located in the north of Tel Aviv. The area is located in a small public park; The site includes a winepress that was used from the 4th century BC to the 2nd century BC and is defined as an elaborate public winepress. The winepress comprises three parts that make up a square, which was probably plastered or paved with a white mosaic. The first part was intended for treading the grapes from which the must would flow to the next leg through a small gutter. In the second part, which filtered the waste, and the third part was intended to drain all the must that was spilled into it. The site has been renovated and maintained by the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and the archeological site is part of a neighborhood public park that also has playgrounds for children. The garden’s landscape design incorporates archeological elements from the area that have been set up as benches or small fences. The park is almost unknown to the public because it is located between the city buildings, and access to it is through a single side street only.
